Introducing a whole new generation to the joys of Mario, The Super Mario Bros. Movie takes us on a dimension-spanning adventure to save Princess Peach and the Mushroom Kingdom - plus Luigi, of course.

We’re hitting the Rainbow Road to find the raddest Super Mario tattoos inked by our incredibly talented sponsored artists - let’s-a go!

Thanks Aanderton & Carlos Fabra - Road Rage

“Well, what are you waiting for? Pick your karts!”

If your childhood (or teen, or student) years weren’t spent racing your friends on the Mario Circuit, you won’t understand the absolute thrill of robbing someone of their first place spot with a carefully-timed blue shell. We love this colourful Spiny Shell from Thanks Aanderton, which has been worked into an existing Mario-themed piece by another artist. Carlos Fabra pits Mario in his Kart against the running skills of Sonic the Hedgehog in this black and grey childhood-inspired sleeve - shame that Mario’s about to hit that Banana Peel…

Carolina Caos Avalle & Duda Lozano - Piranha Plants

“There is no escape. The only hope is the sweet relief of death.”

One of the longest-serving enemies in the Super Mario series, these Audrey II-looking monstrosities have frustrated many a player! Carolina Caos Avalle’s leg sleeve features a toon-style Mario and Piranha, worked into a 90s video game sleeve complete with a SNES controller. This clever piece by Duda Lozano showcases the artist’s fabric patch style, with Mario and a Luma running away from the hungry Piranha Plant.

Tiggy & Mauro de la Fuente - Feeling Peachy

“Her heart-shaped bangs, the way she floats in the breeze, her immovable tiara…”

There’s a lot to love about Princess Peach, and we can’t really blame Bowser for that! Tiggy created this super vibrant Princess Peach tattoo with a little Boo and Bullet Bill, and if you’d like to see how she gets such neat linework and fantastic saturation, we even filmed her making this piece! Mauro de la Fuente made this excellent visual pun piece of a peach wearing the Princess’s iconic blue and red gem crown, finished with splashes of glitter.

Matt Daniels & Mara Tattoo - 8- and 16-bit Adventures

“We don’t make messes - we fix them.”

Mario has a long history, and has come a long way since his earliest appearance as the mysterious Jumpman in Donkey Kong! Matt Daniels worked the 1985 8-bit Mario into this dagger piece, which also features a Mushroom - that iconic moustache was a huge help to animators who struggled to fit facial expressions into such a basic image! Mara Tattoo doubled the fun with 16-bits of Mario doing a running jump in front of this more modern-looking Yoshi.

Nick Limpens & Giovanni GTA - Super Mashup Bros.

“In an insane world, the sane are called insane.”

Some of our favourite themed tattoos happen when a particularly clever artist or client comes up with an unusual mashup! Mario and Luigi become grandfather and grandson in this Mario Kart-inspired Rick and Morty piece by Nick Limpens - they even have the right initials on their caps. Going a little darker, Giovanni GTA imagined Mario and Peach as Léon and Mathilda from Léon the Professional, based on a limited run model by Fools Paradise; try not to think too hard about the creepy implications and instead enjoy the Bullet Bill Beretta and Boo plushy!

Nadine Dohr & Guillaume Martins - Mushroom Madness

“That's a little mushroom man. A little mushroom man talking to me.”

The Super Mario Bros. Movie added a new piece of lore to the franchise: that Mario absolutely hates the taste of mushrooms. To be fair, that would make life a lot harder for him, but even when he gets on board with the mushroom-eating he gets the wrong one! Nadine Dohr handpoked this simple little Mushroom alongside some Lightning - the troubling thing is how to know if it’s a Super Mushroom or a Mini one. Mario also makes a new best friend in the film, the always-optimistic Toad, and this black and grey shaded portrait by Guillaume Martins captures his cheeky smile.

Tom Petucco & Peter Murray - Mario & Friends

“Not sure if you know who I am, but I’m about to rule the world.”

This awesome new school graffiti-style piece from Tom Petucco manages to cram a lot of attitude into this matryoshka-inspired Mario, complete with a 16-bit Piranha Plant and 1UP lettering, while Peter Murray takes a neo-traditional approach on this Yoshi piece. Shout out to those who noticed the pack of wild Yoshis, and stayed for the post-credits scene - we might just be seeing this guy pretty soon…

Igor Mitrenga & Johnny Domus - Right in the Childhood

“You just have to blow into it.”

Two huge leg sleeves here, each incorporating Mario in its own way! Igor Mitrenga’s shattered glass-style composition shows the light and dark side of Mario, a scarily large Piranha Plant, and a Super Mushroom, while Johnny Domus works Princess Peach (with a mushroom) and Mario into this 90s cartoon and videogame inspired sleeve.

Samanta Annie & Joanne Baker - Colour Splash

“Excuse me, everybody, coming through. Got a big adventure happening right now!”

Super Mario is so colourful and fun that many of us have great childhood memories of these games! In Samanta Annie’s piece, she uses a watercolour effect to really make this Mario stand out - the accessories are equally fun, and motion lines mean we know exactly what pose Mario is pulling here! Joanne Baker created this piece which features three brilliant Nintendo characters including a Korok from The Legend of Zelda, an Eevee from Pokémon, and a Cat Goomba from Mario!

Sandry Riffard & Anthony Lennox - The Dark Side of Mario

"Ooh, fresh meat for the grinder!"

Super Mario might be kid’s game, but that doesn’t mean we don’t enjoy the darker side of it! Sandry Riffard transforms a level into the cavities of a skull, for a realism/pop culture combination that really catches the eye. Anthony Lennox used his vibrant neo-traditional style to answer the question, just what kind of mushrooms is he eating anyway? Featuring a dynamic Shy Guy and a Poison Mushroom.

Now that's a happy ending. Or is it? Because everything's over now, and all that's left is you and the infinite void. Kinda makes you wanna play saxophone, huh?

We hope you’ve enjoyed this diverse collection of Super Mario tattoos from across the ages of this epic franchise! Make sure to share your favourite Mario or Nintendo tattoos with us on Instagram and Facebook!
